Matador - DVD Box (New restored version)
The Matador series hardly needs an introduction, and a lot has happened since we greeted Mads Andersen-Skjern and his little son Daniel in the first episode of Matador. One thing that has not changed, however, is that the series manages to gather people in front of the screen.
On November 11, 1978, the first episode of Matador aired, and it has since been rebroadcast several times, and each time the series has managed to gather an average of 1,000,000 viewers in front of TV screens throughout the kingdom, and many actors who were involved in the series have had to come to terms with being identified with the role they had in Matador.
It is with great joy and excitement that we have looked forward to the series now being reissued in a completely new, image and sound restored version.
Matador is a Danish television series in 24 episodes produced in 1978-1981. It is directed by Erik Balling based on an idea by Lise Nørgaard, who together with Paul Hammerich, Karen Smith and Jens Louis Petersen wrote the script, while the cartoonist Arne Ungermann was responsible for the vignettes that begin and end each of the 24 episodes. The series' musical theme was composed by Bent Fabricius-Bjerre.
First season (1929-1932)
Mads Skjern comes to the provincial town of Korsbæk, as a traveling manufactory, and experiences an ailing business life, and therefore decides to open a clothing store. However, he meets resistance from the town's fine old families, primarily the Varnæs family. Bank director Hans Christian Varnæs refuses to lend Mads Skjern capital in order to protect his friend and the owner of the old clothing store Damernes Magasin, Albert Arnesen. Mads Skjern, however, has other resources, and he quickly manages to outcompete Damernes Magasin through sharp and competent business management.
Second season (1933-1937)
The economic crisis of the 1930s hits Korsbæk hard. Due to Jørgen Varnæs' affair with Gitte Gra, he has been divorced, but it has cost him a lot of money. He sells his shareholding and thus also his board position in Korsbæk Bank, which paves the way for the buyer, Viggo Skjold Hansen. Skjold Hansen immediately sets about optimizing the operation of Korsbæk Bank, and sends reminders and cancels loans to bad payers. Hans Christian works overtime with bank assistant Ulla Jacobsen, with whom he begins an affair. After the affair ends, Ulla finds out that she has become pregnant, and Hans Christina helps her to have an abortion at her request.
Third season (1937-1943)
Mads Skjern's business is booming, and he opens a branch in Skælskør, and he buys the large hardware store chateau with a view of the fjord. He also buys a large share in Graas Klædefabrik, where Jørgen Varnæs has just been given a comfortable position. Mads changes his demands and demands real work from Jørgen, which he has difficulty meeting, which is why his contract is reduced.
After the Varnæs couple have been to Paris to save their marriage, Maude becomes pregnant, and they have the late Helle.
World War II affects all residents and their living conditions in Korsbæk, especially when the country is occupied. However, several also make good money, including Boldt by selling ration stamps and Skjold Hansen by renting out a large garage to the Germans.
Fourth season (1944-1947)
Agnes' business is booming, and when Lauritz has to flee to Sweden and wants her with him, she stays in Korsbæk. She starts a production of painted trays, which she agrees with Mads Skjern to sell in his shops.
Viggo Skjold Hansen is harassed by the neighborhood children and is called a "wehrmacht builder" because he rents out his garage. When the chairman of Korsbæk Bank dies, he tries to take over the place, but the master bricklayer Jessen is hired instead.
Mads Skjern, who has made a lot of money during the war, buys Havgården and uses Jørgen Varnæs as a front man so that the real amount of the sale will be unknown.
At the liberation, Skjold Hansen is picked up by the resistance fighters together with a number of collaborators, and he has a stroke. Kristen and Dr. Hansen can return home after staying at Brydesø Castle with the Skjern family's friend Baron von Rydtger.
