Joker

Arthur Fleck lives a miserable life in the middle of the rotten metropolis of Gotham City. On a daily basis, he makes a living as a clown, but he dreams of becoming a stand-up comedian. After a brutal assault, Arthur's mental state begins to change. He doesn't want to be a victim anymore. He doesn't want to feel like everyone is stepping on him. He wants to strike again. Thus, Arthur begins to transform into a terrifying figure, which he names "Joker".

Joaquin Phoenix plays the central role of Arthur Fleck in this alternate creation story about one of Batman's most famous enemies. This is not a Batman movie. Joker has more in common with Taxi Driver and King of Comedy than it has with Tim Burton or Christopher Nolan's interpretations of the Batman universe. There are no colorful action scenes and no hooded superheroes here. This is a dark, claustrophobic, intense film about a man who gets lost in his own mental illness.
